Summer is the perfect time to get your pets moving! At Petzania, we feel very lucky where we live - we have access to a lovely, enclosed field where we often meet other pet parents and enthusiasts. Our own dog, Cody, absolutely loves it! He gets to socialise, make new friends, and have a proper run around in a safe space.
Cody’s favourite game is fetch, but there’s one thing we’ve never quite managed to train him on - letting go of the ball once he’s fetched it! Our solution? We always take two balls with us. When we throw one, Cody brings it back, but he only let’s go when he sees us get ready to throw the second ball. Then it’s a quick swap, and off he goes again! It’s a little routine that keeps him happy and us entertained, and it just goes to show that every pet has their own unique way of playing.
We also love to keep Cody’s mind busy, especially in the mornings. Every day, we hide a Dental stick somewhere in the house for him to find. He goes crazy with excitement, sniffing around and using his working cocker nose to track it down. It’s a simple game, but it keeps his senses sharp and makes his treat last much longer than if we just handed it to him. Plus, it keeps him entertained and gives him a great start to the day!
It’s a real reminder of how important it is for pets to have opportunities to play, explore, and stay active - not just for their health, but for their happiness too.
Here are some fun, healthy ways to keep your dog (or cat) active, plus Petzania’s best products for play and dog enrichment ideas.
1. Outdoor Play and Garden Games
Set up a mini agility course or play fetch in the garden. The Tug-E-Nuff Fauxtastic Powerball Bungee is a durable, interactive dog toy for energetic dogs. We love this toy because it's built to last, even with the most enthusiastic players! For tug and chase, try the Tug-E-Nuff Faux Fur Bungee Chaser. It's soft, fluffy, and perfect for dogs who love to chase. These are some of the best dog toys UK pet owners can find for summer fun.
2. Walks, Hikes, and Adventures
Make the most of the long days with extra walks and outdoor adventures. Bring along Denzel’s Nut Butter & Turkey Training Bites for positive reinforcement and recall training. These are great pet training treats for on-the-go. They're also made with natural ingredients, so you can feel good about what you're feeding your pet. Healthy dog treats make every walk a little more special!
3. Water Play
A paddling pool is a great way for dogs to cool off and enjoy some summer pet activities. After play, having something like the Pet Rebellion Stop Muddy Paws Rug will help dry off those paws before they go and do zoomies in the house. One of our team members uses this rug after every walk, and it's saved her floors from countless muddy disasters!
4. Brain Games and Enrichment
Keep your pet’s mind sharp with the LickiMat range (suitable for Cats and Dogs). Spread a little LickiMat Peanut Butter for a tasty, long-lasting treat. This is a fantastic cat enrichment idea too! It's a great way to keep them entertained and reduce anxiety, especially on hot days when outdoor play isn’t possible.
If your dog loves a challenge, try hiding treats around the house or garden for them to sniff out - just like we do with Cody and his Dental sticks. It’s a simple enrichment game that works wonders for their senses and keeps them busy for longer.
5. Indoor Fun for Rainy Days
Try hide-and-seek with treats or teach a new trick. Denzel’s Training Bites come in a variety of flavours, perfect for rewarding good behaviour. They're small, soft, and easy to chew, making them ideal for training sessions indoors.
Let’s make this summer the most fun yet - for you and your pet!
